Buddy the Umbrella Cockatoo.
My first photo post here at 72suited.com is going to be one of my favorites. This is Buddy, an Umbrella Cockatoo, and yes I think he knows how beautiful he is. I once owned Buddy, or as bird owners know, he owned me. I loved him very much, but long story short, my then wife (now ex-wife) wanted him gone and I respected her wishes and found him a great adoption service. It broke my heart. After our divorce, I decided to see if I could locate Buddy again, possibly take him back. The lady I relinquished him to said about 6 weeks after she got him from me, she found a great match with a family who had a young boy with cancer. Buddy makes him happy, they are together all the time, and they take him to children hospitals and other places to cheer up the crowd from time to time. It just goes to show, things do happen for a reason, and I always knew Buddy had a little something more than your average pet. I miss him still, but I’m very happy to know he has made so many lives better!

I used to own that kind of bird too, Umbrella Cockatoo. It was very sweet and I used to hug it every time I arrive at home. Too bad, it’s gone now.

They’re amazing birds. Sorry to hear he is gone now. Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah, there are lots of that from Indonesia (along with other tropical birds). We got ours from a guy who smuggled it to the Philippines.

So was your bird a wild caught bird that became tame over time?

Yes, it was. And now he knows how to utter/talk some of our local words.

I was referring to our new Black-capped Lory. But both of them came from one of the islands of New Guinea / Indonesia.
