My break from poker didn’t last long.
In fact my break didn’t even make it one day. I wasn’t planning on playing last night until my brother called me about 8:30 talking about his current session on Pokerstars. I had already read a lot on other blogs throughout the day and his call got me thinking about it all again. One post that really stuck out was a great post by Ed Miller over at Noted Poker Authority related to the philosophical side of poker. Near the end he says:
You’re successful if you enjoy playing, and your study is successful if you improve over time.
That is the theme of the post, but read the whole post because it’s much more enlightening then that simple line. Much of it seems obvious, but it still helps to read it, especially when it’s coming from a respected source like Ed Miller. I don’t have a problem with enjoying poker, far from it, but I do find the grind frustrating sometimes and it helps to remember why I’m playing in the first place. Last night was fun.
