Pet Royal Python. 200th upload!

More commonly known as Ball Pythons. I’ve had her for over 6 years now. Here is some random facts on her:

  • When I first got her she was 16 inches long, now she is about 5 feet long.
  • She has only bit me once (so far) and it was my fault.
  • I feed her frozen/thawed rodents (yes they are in my freezer).
  • “Ball” Python comes from their defensive position- they ball up and protect their head.
  • She once went “off feed” during winter for 4 months.
  • They have no eyelids- to protect their eyes they have a special scale called an “eye cap”.

  • 5 feet??? Wow!

Is it legal to have it in residence area? I like to see but no touching.

6 years with you? She must be your close friend by now.

Yes it is legal, where I live. I think there might be certain communities around the country that don’t allow it, but for the most part it is legal.

I don’t think a snake ever really becomes friends with anyone, at best they just tolerate us more. :)

  • My friend also rares a blood python for nearly 2 yrs….it looks awesome but im really scared of snakes…..just to see not to hold or rare it….

I know some people that are afraid of snakes too, in fact my mom is so terrified of them she won’t even look at them. Snakes (and reptiles in general) fascinate me though. I’d own more if we didn’t already have a house full of animals.

  • Nice picture! I have a ball python named Enzo. He’s four years old (had him for one year this month), three feet long, and roughly three pounds. He’s my first, and is a great animal. I’m hoping he’ll reach 4 ft. but i’m not holding my breath. Females tend to get bigger than males so he probably won’t get much bigger.

  • You said she bit you once and it was your fault. What did you do?

I am also freaked out by snakes, always have been. But I am a big gardener and think they are fantastic for the environment.

@Megan- Thanks. Do you have any pictures, Flickr account, website? My girl has been a great animal also, most ball pythons tolerate us more then your average snake.

@Trevor- I used to feed her in a separate cage, putting the rodent in the cage AFTER moving her. Once I put the rodent in first, and as I put her in the separate cage, she smelled rodent and went after the first thing that moved, my hand. I learned my lesson.

    Thanks for stopping by everyone!

Thanks for stopping by. I had a hard time deciding if this was spam or not? Still not sure. Akismet caught but this almost seemed legit.
