Work has kept me from blogging, but not from playing hold ‘em.

I work on computers all day, every day for a living, so generally the only computer time I look forward to at home is playing hold ‘em online.  Hence, I try to do my blogging at work while at lunch or if it is slow, which hasn’t been an option lately.  Today isn’t any slower, but instead of working through lunch I’m making sure I update my blog.  Anyway- to the game we love…

I ended last week (my weeks are Monday through Sunday) down about $3.00 and the bankroll at $222.  Monday night I lost a few more dollars but last night I won $16 bringing the bankroll to $235 which is the highest to date.  My goal is to move up to $10NL at $250.  The anticipation is building.  Last time I moved up at $200 and after a couple of OK sessions disaster struck and I eventually moved back down to $5NL.  Even then I still dipped as low as $149, but I never stopped grinding.  From that $149 to $235 I’ve been steady.  Usually it goes like this: 3 small winning sessions, 1 big losing session.  During this stretch though, the losses have been smaller and less frequent.  Why?  Tilt.  I don’t think anyone is impervious to tilt, but I think it can be controlled.  Tilt usually starts because of a bad beat, the key is to accept that bad beats are part of the game.  Someone played bad and got lucky (OK, a lot of people played bad and got lucky).  Tag them with a note and generally you’ll get your money back soon enough.  Result: I’ve been playing more calm, calculated, and controlled - less robotic, leaky, and predictable.

There you have it.  My insight for the moment.  Basic to most, but at the same time I think tilt effects us all.
