My first experience at Full Tilt Poker.

Well to clarify last night was my first cash experience at Full Tilt (I played in my first Twitter Poker Tour event at Full Tilt but haven’t missed a Pokerstars event).  I’ve played a little in the free games, just to get a feel for the software.  First thing I noticed is it didn’t seem as easy to find the games I wanted or to filter them at all.  Shoot I couldn’t even maximize the lobby like you can with Pokerstars.  I’m not a big fan of the cartoon characters at the tables, I’ll admit it’s different, but that’s not always a good thing.  I’m sure some of it is my familiarity with Pokerstars, but some of it is also functionality.

As far as actually playing at Full Tilt, the lowest no limit stake is $0.05/0.10, and for most people that is more than low enough.  Pokerstars has $0.01/0.02 and $0.02/0.05 NL below that, which has been key for me since I started with $2.00 ($338 now).  Plus there are a lot more players / tables at Pokerstars meaning I have a lot more choices both in stakes and styles of play.  And the rumors might be true?  I’ve heard from more than one source / friend that FTP is worse in terms of players coming from behind for the win.  I saw it a lot last night in the TPT, even I was a victim of it.  It was just one session though and I’m sure my opinions will change over time.  All my babbling aside, the TPT was fun as always.  If you play online poker you should check out the Twitter Poker Tour and all the banter behind it.

  • I prefer FTP much more than PokerSTars, A lot of it has to do wtih your style, ftp is quite a big quicker paced so you have to be willing to keep up with it. the bet pot button annoys me cause so many people make ridiculous raises preflop with it. Although when they do it they are labeling themselves a target for any good player. One thing I like about it, is that you dont get tourneys iwth 9000 people in them. The come from behind thing is a bit ridiculous, why would gus hansen and those guys play cash games for 10k5kNL on there if that was true?

Yeah I noticed it was faster last night than the PS events, that is certainly a factor. I think on average the FTP TPT events have been larger, meaning a lot of people prefer it like you, it’s just a personal preference thing. As far as suckouts- all I’m saying is I know a few people that have large sample sizes at both sites, and they feel like they get sucked out on more at Full Tilt. Plus I’m sure it’s a select few playing 10K/5K NL and they aren’t multi-tabling the crap out of it and getting in multi-way pots against the likes of 9-3o and A-7o on a regular basis. Basically, they know who they are playing against, how they play, and they are all good. Micro stakes players don’t have that luxury and will find themselves in way ahead / losing situations more often. So your comparison isn’t really apples to apples.

  • Each site has it’s positives and negatives. I personally prefer PokerStars for my tournaments because they have better structures for the low stakes I play. Full Tilt is where I like to play my cash games, but it does stink playing 0.25/0.50 limit on a very small bankroll.

I don’t even pay attention or engage in the argument about one getting sucked out more on one site. You’ll find arguments on both sides of that coin and usually it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

I will say this though, I run so bad in the TPT it’s sick. blah!

Pipedream- I usually avoid the debate also, deep down I don’t really believe any of it, but sometimes you see / hear things that make you wonder.

Swyyft- Hard not to agree with that. :)

  • I just visited you coming from entrecard. What a nice blog you have here!

Funny enough Im trying to get a connection with Full Tilt but as an affiliate to promote them. I have to say that pokerstars, full tilt, party poker and titan are the best sites of the moment.

I have also yesterday register on twitter and Im going to checkout the tpt. Thanks for the heads up! What is your nick on twitter? How can I find you there?

I hope to hear from you soon and if you have 5 min. maybe you could drop by my blog as well! Thanks!

    Best regards,
    Miguel

Personally, I prefer PokerStars over Full Tilt Poker for both cash games and tournaments. For cash games, I suppose it’s just a preference thing, but for tournaments, I believe the structure is just plain better and provides better players a bigger advantage. That’s just my opinion, though.

  • I prefer Full Tilt but Poker Stars is good as well. I like the amount of different table stakes at both sites.
