First of all congrats to @SteveBrogan for the winning the Twitter Poker Tour event last night. I had another bad showing, finishing 28th out of 34. Two weeks ago I got all-in preflop with Q-Q against 7-7 only to have a 7 flop. This week I got it all-in preflop with A-Ks against 10-10 only to have a 10 flop. So flopped sets are killing me in the TPT. I acknowledge A-K vs 10-10 can be a race to the finish, but it really sucks to be running on fumes before you get out of 1st gear. Afterward I decided to keep playing and it went real bad for a while before I made a slight comeback. By this time I was still a bit frustrated and decided that small comeback was a good place to cut myself off from poker for the night. It’s not been a good week as I’ve seen my bankroll shrink a bit from $339 down to $316. Nothing to panick about by any means but also nothing encouraging happening either. So here is hoping the weekend is the start of a peak and not a continuation of the valley.

Flop sets are a major worry of mine and cause me all kinds of difficulty. During my first online tournament (albeit only a few days ago – I just got into the online game), at the final table a real aggressive player busted my pocket aces pre-flop when his pocket 4’s hit. I had the guy right where I wanted (i.e., I checked, he raised all in) only to have the poker stars “dealer” reduce my chip stack to nothing. Of course, the very next hand when I was on life support, my pocket 9’s got eaten alive by Q-5 off suit. In the long run I know the variance will catch up. However, it is frustrating as hell! Based on your posts, your solid play will usually even out on the side of good. At least that’s what all hope!

Hi Kevin- Thanks for stopping by. I can’t get too mad about flopped sets when we have it all-in pre-flop and I have the higher pocket pair. It happens but like you said variance will catch up. A-K can be a difficult hand to play, but it becomes easier later in a tournament when I’m becoming short stacked, just need an Ace or King to spike like so many seem to do against me. Well we have another TPT event tonight and I’m hoping I don’t get taken out by another flopped set, that is getting old. See you around.
Keep your head up, poker is a game of ups and downs. You really need to have a lot of patience that is for sure.
