Making money at hold ‘em while drinking a home brew. It won’t be long now, about 2 weeks, and my Irish Stout home brew will ready for drinking. I bottled it this last Sunday and taste tested about 6 ounces of it. Although it was flat, I was very pleased with the taste, I can’t wait for the finished product.

On the hold ‘em front, I played very little last week, 2 or 3 sessions, I can’t even remember. I’m all about quality over quantity though, and I netted an $18 gain for the week, bringing my bankroll up to $240, just $10 shy of my goal when I move up to $10NL. I’ll probably play tonight- I have to practice up for the Twitter Poker Tour event at PokerStars this Thursday at 9:00pm. (<–find tournament info there) You don’t have to be a Twitter user to play, but it certainly enhances your chances of winning, being able to trash talk with and figure out your opponents between TPT events. I will be surprised if I don’t win, because I have everyone else figured out already. I hope that doesn’t discourage you from playing though.

I’m getting plenty of photo opps of this exact situation, just different beverage is all. I haven’t had time to play holdem since Monday night and I don’t see that changing until this weekend, but snapping a photo only takes a second.

Today is one week since I last played poker. No, I haven’t given up, far from it. Between golf, yard work, Detroit Red Wings and Pistons playoff games and other little projects and plans, I just haven’t had the time. Now, where was I? Oh yeah, beer…

I was pleasantly surprised last night to find my wife had bought me a Brewer’s Best deluxe home brewing kit, an upgrade from my Mr. Beer kit. The Mr. Beer kit is nice and simple, but it’s simplicity limits how much experimentation you can do. With this new deluxe kit, I can buy a much larger variety of ingredient kits or buy my own combination of, barley, hops, yeast, etc to create my own concoctions. She also bought me two books, Homebrewing for Dummies and The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, and I’ve already started reading and learning. As someone that loves beer, home brewing can be so rewarding, I can’t wait to fill my head with some of this new knowledge and get my next batch brewing! Thanks hon, you’re awesome!

Not for me anyway. I lost $30. I didn’t realize we were going to play a tournament, but that’s what we started with. $10 buy in and we had 10 guys. I think that is silly, with 10 guys the first guy out is probably going to have to wait a couple hours to play again. I went out 3rd, the hand that crippled me was when I had pocket 7′s and a 7 came on the flop. After aggressively betting the flop and turn and one guy calling me down, I checked the river and he got his straight on the river. Sadly, those 3 7′s would end up being my best hand on the night, hence my losing another $20 in the cash game. I could have played longer, tried to get money back, but at 1am my heart and head weren’t in it anymore, so I cut my losses at that point. Things are looking up today though. I’ve been spending some time getting my first batch of home brewed beer going. I love beer and I’m so looking forward to making many different beers here at home now.
